Relations between the Republic of Serbia and Japan are traditionally good and friendly, with a mutual interest in intensifying cooperation in all areas and strengthening political dialogue. The beginnings of the friendship date back to 1882, when there was an exchange of notes between Emperor Meiji and the Serbian King Milan Obrenovic.
The next year, 2022, is extremely important because it marks 140 years of friendship between these two countries. This significant jubilee will be ideal for deepening the long-standing friendship between Serbia and Japan.

ECONOMIC RELATIONS - BILATERAL EXCHANGE
Despite very good economic and political relations, official direct exchange is modest, but has great improvement potential. In 2020, the largest trade was achieved in the past few years, in the total amount of 212.97 million euros, with exports from Serbia of 83.2 million euros (growth of 62%) and imports from Japan of 129.76 million euros (a drop of about 10.5%). The record value of our exports to Japan was achieved in 2020.
Numerous significant Japanese companies have been present on the market of the Republic of Serbia for a long time, companies such as Toyo Tires, Nidec, Yazaki, and Mayekawa have started their operations in Serbia in the last three years.
Despite impressive technological advances, strong industry, and food production, Japan is one of the largest food importers in Asia (only rice production meets domestic demand).
Japan is connected to all world airports by air. The main international airports are Tokyo (Haneda and Narita), Osaka (Kansai), Nagoya (Chubu Centrair), Fukuoka, and Sapporo (Chitose).
